Welcome to the Lumieres website; portrait photography, professional photography, landscape photography, event photography, and corporate photography by south coast photographer Simon Bayliss. A passionate outback landscape photographer, Simon's photographic journey began as a child but not pursued until after a long hiatus while pursuing the 'normal' career path. Over the last 10 years Simon has tirelessly reconnected with the inner creative through both self education and endless road trips in the pursuit of nurturing his innate photographic character.
With brilliant lighting and careful settings, his photographs are both impressive and impressionistic.

The magnificent and iconic Darling River is one of the best examples of what Dorothy Mackellar was alluding to in her famous poem 'My Country', " I love a sunburnt country, A land of sweeping plains, Of ragged mountain ranges, Of droughts and flooding rains".
The river meanders through Outback NSW from its origins in Queensland's Darling Downs - via the Warrego and Culgoa Rivers - and from the northern NSW tributaries of Barwon, Gwydir, Namoi, Castlereagh and Bogan rivers.

Silverton landscape photography: There is a very special magic about Silverton; it has less than 50 people living there, was the site of an 1800's failed mining boom, is a drawcard for artists and it is the location for many Australian movies. All that and only 15 minutes from Broken Hill and about 1 hour from the Darling River and the Darling River Run. Some say it is the most thriving and healthy looking ghost town in the world.

Lake Mungo landscape photography: In theory, Lake Mungo is nothing more than the remnants of an ancient lake (completely dry with ancient sand dunes running 20+ km along the eastern bank) in the New South Wales Outback. But in in reality, Lake Mungo is one of the most significant anthropological and archaeological sites in the world. Lake Mungo, within Mungo National Park in outback Australia, is an ancient lakebed that last retained permanent water 10,000+ years ago and has recorded continuous Aboriginal habitation for 40,000+ years - making it the site of the oldest known human occupation in Australia. It is no surprise that it features in a lot of landscape photography.
South island new zealand: A paradise for landscape photography. The land of the long white cloud... New Zealand is one of the most beautiful places to experience and while it has a reputation as being 'the adrenaline capital of the world' it is also famous for its beautiful and majestic landscapes.

Melbourne, the food and fashion capital of Australia, presents the visitor with a myriad of things to do and see; and many unique vistas for the photographer. Much is made if its rivalry with its northern cousin Sydney but there really cannot be any comparisons as each city has its own unique qualities and stand on their own as marvellous Australia cities.
Melbourne presents itself as a very cosmopolitan city with a lovely multicultural fabric that makes the city of Melbourne a pleasure to visit and it is not only about sport. The European feel to the city (in a similar vein to Stockholm or Paris) with its restaurants cafes and wonderful laneways provides for a easy and pleasurable experience around the city as well as St Kilda, South Yarra and Carlton. Add to this that it is the fashion capital of Australia (not to mention the sports capital as well).

Fårö (Gotland Sweden) is an island on the northern tip of Gotland and is easily reached by ferry. While it is only about 5 minutes by ferry, the island is very different to the rest of Gotland. Faro is the famous home of the late Ingmar Bergman; world famous Swedish movie director, writer and producer of film, stage and television. Fårö is also famous for the Raukar (limestone sea-stacks) that line the north coast that provide an amazing site and are beautifully complimented by the man-made cairns. Gotland is easily reached by plane or there is a car ferry running from mainland Sweden (Nynäshamn or Oskarshamn) to Gotland (Visby)
Black white photography Sydney: There has always been something special about black white photography that can evoke an emotion and tell a story that colour photography seems not to. It can focus the viewer on special elements of the photograph that may be other lost in a colour image in the same way that depth of field can. Without the distraction of colour, the image of black white photography is left to structure, tones and luminance to convey the message. And Sydney, like Melbourne, is a wonderful city for black white photography.
Photographie de Paris (Paris photography) always exhibits a timeless beauty. The city of Paris is full of the verve and energy of life; and the streets are alive with people being people. Around Saint Germaine Saint Martin, Passy, Place des Vosges, Montmartre, along Parisian streets like there are photographic subjects and wonderful compositions to be had.
Landscape photography is a passion of Simon’s and it is when he feels most grounded; it is something to do with the connectivity he feels for the landforms he visits. Despite being born in the city (Melbourne) Simon has always had a passion for the Australian landscape; probably nurtured by a family property surrounded by the Red Gum forests of Mathoura (just north of the Murray River and Echuca)
Stock photography of Australia, New Zealand, Sweden and France for the travel and tourism industry available as Royalty Free and Rights Managed stock photography; the Lumieres online galleries covers all elements of stock photography from ‘experience’ photography highlighting tourism activities to landscape stock photography illustrating the beauty of landforms and natural geography of Australasia, Scandinavia and Continental Europe.

The Darling River Run: In 2008, Simon was commissioned by Outback NSW Tourism to photograph and research the iconic Darling River Run in addition to constructing the Darling River Run website. Travelling the run 8 times in the year enabled him to compile not only a vast array of Outback NSW images focusing on the river, national parks and the iconic towns of the outback, but also compile extensive travel and touring information for the Darling River Run website; an invaluable resource for the Outback traveller.
The initiative was the recipient of several Inland Tourism awards in 2009 and 2010 of which Simon was extremely proud of his involvement; not only for that which he created but having the privilidge of being able to continue the work of so many before him who provided the initial work for this much loved part of Australia.
