The town grew out of the early timber cutters (cedar) and the Boat Harbour provided the means of transporting the timber to Wollongong and Sydney. As a result of the clearing, and its good rainfall, the lush landscape enabled the town to develop as a dairy village. With its wonderful beaches and awesome coastline, Gerringong natural progressed into tourism and today it has a perfect mix to without being too busy or too crowed in the peak times.
