mount kosciusko alpine australia: "There was movement at the station, for the word had passed around..". so penned Australian bush poet Banjo Paterson in the late 1880's. The Man From Snowy River is an iconic Australian figure beautifully captured in the poem and this sprit in indelibly etched in the soul of all Australians and as such, following the Snowy River to its source near Mt Kosciusko is a pilgrimage all Australians should make. Like the Darling River to the west, the snowy is an Australian icon.

Mount Kosciusko, Australia’s highest mountain at 2,228 metres, and can be accessed along the old road that up until 1976 was open to cars but is today is only open to pedestrian traffic. Alternatively, the Main Range track is longer but far more spectacular as it ascends and descends several ridges and traverses some spectacular Alpine country.
