tom groggin australian alpine regiontom groggin australian alps: Tom Groggin is probably one of the nicest campsites along the Murray River; to camp on the banks of Australia's great river and listen to the timeless sound of the water rushing over ancient rocks is to listen to the Spirit of our land. Truly Magical!
Australia's mighty Murray River starts high up in the Snowy Mountains as a spring near a place referred to as The Pilot. From this spring, it combines with snow melt of the Australian Alps (Mount Kosciusko) proceeds to flow westward all the way to Lake Alexandrina near Adelaide.

Olsens Lookout #1

One of the best views of the Snowy Mountains; Olsen’s lookout on Read’s Range illustrates the rugged rise the Great Dividing Range makes from the Geehi Plains up to Mount Townsend 2209m; Mount Kosciusko is behind this range. The Alpine Way in the Australian Alpine Region Australia

It is believed that name Tom Groggin is a transliteration of an indigenous word meaning water Spider. Tom Groggin Rest Area is the furthest upstream one can go on a surveyed route. Jack Riley, the stockman that Banjo Paterson refers to in his immortal poem 'The Man From Snowy River' lived and worked at Tom Groggin Station and it is this area that is the site for the famous ride to recapture the colt from Old Regret that joined the wild bush horses.
